Del Rio International Bridge Border Crossing Wait Times & FAQ’s

The Del Rio bridge in Texas started life as a pontoon bridge. However, the current bridge was built in 1987. The bridge joins Del Rio, Texas, in the United States to Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila in Mexico. This is one of the most popular crossing points for tourists traveling to Mexico through Texas.

It is possible to both walk and cycle across the Del Rio International bridge. There is a $0.75 fee for this. There are two sidewalks on the bridge, so it is a comfortable and safe crossing for those on foot
There is a toll for crossing the bridge. The amount depends on the class of vehicle, and the number of axles. For a standard auto or pickup, the fee is $4 or 80 pesos.
The border crossing is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The wait time at this crossing is quite variable. Usually, at peak times, it reaches a delay length of around 25 minutes. In the early hours of the morning, you might find that there is no wait at all.
On the Texas side of the border, there is a UETA duty-free shop. It is located just down the road from the border crossing. The store is open 7 days a week from 9 am to 6 pm, and 11 am to 5 pm on Sundays. When returning from Mexico to the US, you can bring up to $800 of merchandise back to the US. This can include up to a 60-day supply of any medications. If you bring more than 60 days' worth, then the drugs will be seized when you cross the border.
For US citizens, you need to have a form of identification to be able to cross the border. The easiest form of ID to use is a passport or passport card. However, you can also use your Enhanced Driver’s License (not a regular driving license) or a Trusted Traveler Card. Remember that a birth certificate or government-issued photo ID is not accepted as a valid identification to cross the border into Mexico. For non-US citizens, you will need your passport and the visa you used at your initial port of entry to the US. If you are entering the US and are not a US citizen, then you will need an appropriate and valid visa.
