The San Ysidro Port of Entry connects San Diego and Tijuana and is the busiest land crossing in the Western World with tens of millions of crossings each year. A massive expansion and modernisation of this crossing was completed in 2019 at the cost of nearly 3/4 billion dollars.

There are three San Ysidro pedestrian border crossings or Garitas. These are the PedWest, PedEast and Cross Border Xpress crossing. NOTE: The PedWesy crossing is currently closed with no timeline on re-opening. The San Ysidro PedWest crossing is an exclusively pedestrian port of entry. The Cross Border Xpress (CBX) has an enclosed pedestrian bridge that joins the Tijuana airport with the San Diego terminal building. The PedEast crossing serves as the main northern crossing point though is still used as a means to walk into Mexico for travelers who wish to access that side of Tijuana.
