22nd March 2021 – An anniversary few thought possible has just passed. The worlds longest land barrier has been closed to all but essential journeys for more than one year now. When we first wrote about the border closure few of us thought it would go on for so long. Indeed, after the first few months writing monthly ‘border closure extended for 1 more month’ posts soon became a redundant affair as it became clear that the pandemic was not going to go away anytime soon, nor the border closure.

More than half a million US and Canadian citizens have lost their lives to Covid. Nearly three million worldwide.

With the pandemic still far from in remission and with the absence of even a phased opening plan being aired by either US or Canadian governments, it is unlikely the US / Canadian border will open anytime soon.
