Serving as a border crossing between the United States and Canada, the Derby Line Stanstead border crossing links Stanstead in Quebec with Derby Line in Vermont. The Derby Line border crossing is one of two connecting the two towns. The other pass close by is the Beebe Plain-Beebe crossing.

Yes, there are surface roads that connect Derby Line and Stanstead. These may seem that there is no official border patrols, but there is constant surveillance. It is up to the pedestrian to report to a border station every single time you cross the border. This is true whether you walk, cycle, skate or ski across the border.
If you are caught crossing the border without reporting to a border station, you may face prosecution.
There is no toll charge for crossing the Derby Line Stanstead border.
The Derby Line crossing is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Between Monday to Friday there is a NEXUS line available that runs from 3 pm to 5 pm. The Nexus line closes on public holiday.
The crossing is also FAST equipped.
There are two duty-free shops on either side of the border. In Derby Line, you can find Duty Free Americas on 35 Herrick Road. In Stanstead, the duty-free store is IGL Duty-Free and is situated at 1 Autoroute 55.
You have a set amount of personal exemptions permitted in the country you are entering. If you exceed the personal exemptions, then you will have to pay taxes and duties on these items.
As you cross the Derby Line – Stanstead border, you will have to present identification to border control. This form of ID could be a valid passport, birth, or citizenship certificate or naturalization documents. In the case of certificates, it is best to bring a form of photo ID too, such as your driving license. However, remember that your driving license alone is not sufficient identification to cross the border.
In Canada, you can use a citizen card as well as the ID forms mentioned above.
