Yes, it is possible to walk across the border at the Houlton-Woodstock Crossing. However, there is not much available for pedestrians in the immediate border facility. The border area is surrounded mainly by farmland.
There is no toll for this border crossing as it is only a connection of highways. The border crossing links the Interstate 95 in the United States with the New Brunswick Route 95 in Canada. If you want to speed up border crossings, then you can purchase a NEXUS card which costs 50 USD and lasts for five years. This will enable you to use the NEXUS lanes when they are in use.
The border is open 24 hours a day and available to cross every day of the week. It is open all year round. The NEXUS lane openings are between the hours of 3 pm to 6 pm on weekdays for services into Canada. The NEXUS lane is closed on holidays and is not operational at weekends. For services into the United States, the NEXUS lane opens from 7 am to 10 am on weekdays. The border crossing is also FAST equipped.
In the United States, you can find a Duty-Free Americas store at the border in Houlton. The store is 1- Interstate 95. It is open from 8 am until 8 pm weekdays and 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. In Woodstock, Canada, there is the Woodstock Duty-Free Shop. This is open from 9 am until 5 pm weekdays, 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sunday. It is essential to bring the right paperwork with you in order to cross the border. You can use a passport, passport card, and NEXUS card as proof of ID. You can also use an Enhanced Driving License.
