As the busiest crossing in Minnesota, this port of entry between the United States and Canada connects International Falls in Minnesota with Fort Frances in Ontario. The border crossing is at the International Falls International Bridge which goes over the Rainy River.
There has been a border crossing here since 1895. However, the bridge was finished in 1912; it features a railroad track and two vehicle lanes.

Yes, there is pedestrian access across International Falls International Bridge. Both International Falls and Fort Frances are charming places to visit, and both locations encourage you to enjoy a ‘two-nation vacation.’
While there is a toll for vehicles on the bridge, there is no toll for pedestrians. Just remember to bring all relevant ID when you cross the bridge.
On the northbound route, there is a cash-only toll for the International Falls Bridge. This is $7 (USD) for cars and pickups, $2 for motorcycles, $4 for trailers, $16 for semi-trucks and buses. There is a charge of $350 for trucks with oversized loads. There is no bridge toll for pedestrians or south bound travelers.
The Fort Frances - International Falls bridge is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has a year-round opening. While the winters are relatively quiet at the border, you can expect a lot of traffic and several delays from May to June and during peak holidays. Delays can be up to three hours in peak periods.
There is a NEXUS lane. The service into Canada runs from 7.30 am to 8.30 am on weekdays. Into the United States, the service is accepted in all lanes and runs seven days a week. The border is also FAST equipped.
There is a Duty-Free Americas store in International Falls. This is located at 226 1-2 2nd Avenue. Customers are requested to call the store in advance to find out the opening hours.
In Fort Frances, there is a Fort Frances Duty-Free store. This store has plenty of parking available and is open seven days a week from 8 am to 5 pm.
It is best to use a universally accepted ID when crossing the border, such as a passport, to reduce the time it takes for border control to process your information. Travelers entering the United States will need a relevant visa too. To travel into Canada, you can spend up to six months in the country without a visa, providing this is for tourism purposes.
