You cannot walk across the bridge. The Lewiston Bridge is for vehicle crossings only. You can cross on a bike, but it is not recommended as this is the major road crossing between the US and Canada.

Pedestrians are now allowed on the bridge. High winds can sometimes mean lane closures and 5mph speed limits can be imposed. Restrictions for high sided vehicles may also apply in these circumstances.

A toll is only applicable crossing into Canada. There is a $1.00 charge in both currencies for bike crossings. For cars, the toll is $4.00 USD or $5.50 CAD. Commercial vehicles are charged per axle. For two axles, the price is the same as for a car. Three axles are charged at $11.00 USD or $15.00 CAD. It increases up to 12 Axles which is charged at $120.00 USD or $155.50 CAD. Buses with two axles are charged $12.00 USD or $15.00 CAD. Buses with three axles are charged $14.00 USD or $18.50 CAD. Trucks that weigh over 130,000 must clear their loads before arrival. There is an additional charge for overweight vehicles starting at $65.000 USD and $90.00 CAD up to $250.00 USD or $347.00 CAD for vehicles weighing over 170.001. RVs and Limos are charged at $4.00 USD or $5.50 CAD per axle. Vehicles that are more than 11 feet wide must make arrangements before arriving by calling the operations center at 905-354-5641 or 716-285-6322 ext 4161. It is important to be aware that there is an additional charge if one side of the bridge needs to be shut off. This costs $510.00 USD or $707.00 CAD.

The bridge is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There is one dedicated NEXUS lane to enter each country. The lane into the US is open Monday-Friday 6 am - 8 am, except for on holidays. The lane into Canada is open every day from 8 am to 8 pm

Lewiston Bridge duty free info: There is onsite duty-free shopping on both sides of the bridge. Shopping is available 24/7 at both sites.

For entry to Canada, it is recommended that you have a passport with you, and if required a valid visa. US citizens entering Canada may also use the following as identification;

• NEXUS membership card
• FAST card

For admission to the US for Canadian citizens, individuals should bring one of the following:

• Canadian Passport
• Enhanced drivers license/Enhanced identification card
• NEXUS card
• FAST/EXPRESS and SENTRI enrolment cards

Canadian citizens returning to Canada will need to provide one of the following:

• NEXUS Card
• FAST card
• Canadian emergency travel document
• Canadian temporary passport
• Certificant of Canadian citizenship issued after 1954
• Enhanced drivers license

US Citizens returning to the country will need one of:

• Passport
• Passport card
• Enhanced drivers license
• Under 16's will require a birth certificate. If the parents are not present a handwritten note with contact details of the parents must be shown.
