Madawaska–Edmundston Bridge Wait Times & FAQ’s

Joining Edmundston in New Brunswick and Madawaska in Maine is the Edmunston – Madawaska bridge and border crossing. Before the bridge was built in 1921, passengers would cross the border in a hand-pulled ferry over the Saint John River.

It is one of the busiest border crossings between the United States and Canada. However, due to the age of the bridge, there are certain weight limitations which make the use of the bridge unfeasible for some commercial travelers. Currently, the weight restriction is under 5 tons.
