Port Huron – Blue Water Bridge Border Crossing Wait Times & FAQ’s
The Blue Water Bridge crosses the St. Clair River linking Port Huron in Michigan, US to Sarnia in Ontario, Canada. The impressive looking bridge runs from Highway 402 in Ontario to Michigan on Interstate 69 (I-69) and Interstate 94 (I-94). It is the second busiest commercial crossing along the US – Canada border, after the Detroit – Windsor crossing at Ambassador Bridge. The Port Huron crossing to Canada is a large complex affair with various toll and inspection plazas on both sides of the border. You cannot walk across the Blue Water Bridge. Pedestrians are forbidden on the bridge and the best option for crossing the bridge if you do not have a car is to hire a cab for the journey. Be sure to let the cab company know you will be crossing the border as the driver will be required to have relevant identification in order to cross.
There is a toll charge for crossing the Blue Water Toll Bridge both into the US and into Canada. When entering the US by car the cost is $4.25 Canadian Dollars, or $3.25 US Dollars. Commercial vehicles are charged per axle and the cost is $4.50 US Dollars or £3.50 Canadian Dollars per axle. When entering Canada, the cost for a car is $3 US Dollars or $4 Canadian dollars, and every extra axle is the same again. Trucks and buses are charged $3.25 US Dollars or $4.25 Canadian Dollars per axle. You cannot pay the toll in a mix of both US and Canadian currency.
The crossing at Port Huron – Blue Water Bridge is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in both directions.
There is a Duty Free Americas store on the US side of Port Huron – Blue Water Bridge border crossing. This store is not located directly on the bridge plaza, but instead on Pine Grove Avenue. On the Canadian side, the Blue Water Bridge Duty Free Shop is located in Sarnia. This can be accessed via Highway 402.
Travellers entering the US will be required to present at least one form of approved travel documentation, such as a valid passport. Non-US or Canadian residents will also require the appropriate visas to enter the US.
