Roma Border Crossing Wait Times & FAQ’s
The original bridge at this crossing point was a suspension bridge. While the old bridge still stands, it is no longer used. The modern bridge was built in 1988. The new bridge is still a small two-lane bridge. As a result, there can often be a lot of congestion at the crossing.
The bridge, known as Roma – Cuidad Miguel Aleman International Bridge, connects Roma in Texas to Ciudad Miguel Aleman in Tamaulipas.

The Miguel Aleman bridge is open for all types of crossing, including pedestrians. You are able to walk across the border for a $0.50 fee per person.
If you are driving a car or a pickup then the toll to cross is $3.50. Commercial vehicles are charged based on the number of axles, starting at $6.00 with an additional $1 for each axle beyond the first two. The charge for passenger buses is $20. Pedestrians need to pay $0.50 to cross the bridge.
The Roma port of entry is open 24 hours a day. The average wait time is only about 10 minutes, making it a fairly quick place to cross. At peak times, around rush hours, the wait reaches a little more than 20 minutes.
For commercial vehicles, the bridge is only open from 10 am to 6 pm.
The US duty-free store is located right next to the Roma port of entry. From Monday through to Saturday the opening times are 10 am until 4 pm. On Sundays, the duty-free store is open from 10 am until 4 pm.
To cross any of the land borders in Texas you need to show proper identification. As you would expect passports are the most common form of ID used to cross the border. Frequent border crossers can make use of PASS cards. Trusted traveler cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, and FAST) also have the added bonus of allowing for faster crossings and discounted tolls at some crossing points. State-issued enhanced driver’s licenses are also accepted for crossing the border.
