Fabens – Tornillo – Marcelino Serna Border Crossing Wait Times & FAQ’s
The port of entry at Fabens was shut because the small bridge was unable to handle the amount of traffic it was seeing. This port of entry was replaced with the Tornillo port of entry, which was renamed the Marcelino Serna port of entry. The name Marcelino Serna comes from the name of a Mexican immigrant who became one of Texas’ most decorated veterans of World War One.
The Marcelino Serna bridge connects Tornillo in Texas with Guadalupe in Mexico.

The border crossing and new bridge are open to pedestrians as well as commercial and passenger vehicles.
There is no toll to cross either the border or the bridge. As long as you plan a short stay close to the border you don’t need to pay any fees to enter the country. For longer trips, you may need to pay a $22 fee to bring your car into the country.
The border is open to traffic from 6 am until 10 pm every day. The average wait time is around 20 minutes. However, when the border opens at the start of the day, the wait can be almost double this.
There are no duty-free stores located near to this border crossing. There are several located near the crossings in El Paso which is a short drive away.
For citizens returning to the US from Mexico, there is an $800 duty-free allowance. This can include up to 60-days worth of prescription medications.
US citizens will need to produce a valid form of identification when crossing the border, in either direction. Accepted forms of identification are an in-date passport or passport card, an Enhanced Driver's License or enhanced tribal identification card, a trusted travelers card such as NEXUS or SENTRI. A US military ID can be used only with accompanying orders.
Non-US citizens should have both their passport and a valid visa. You must have the visa from your initial entry to the US if this is not where you originally entered.
For children under the age of sixteen, you may be asked to produce an original birth certificate.
