Peace Bridge Wait Times & FAQ’s

The Peace Bridge sits at the source of the Niagara River and is one of the busiest crossing points between the US and Canada. It is also one of several bridge crossings in the Niagara area and commonly regarded as the fastest and cheapest of the bridge crossings.

There are pedestrian lanes on either side of the bridge. Pedestrians are still subject to inspection. Be aware that during sporting events such as Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabre home games bridge traffic can be extremely busy. For Peace Bridge wait times see below.

Yes, pedestrians and cyclists can cross the Peace Bridge. The same ID requirements and customs inspections apply for pedestrians and cyclists as for those crossing by motor vehicles. You MUST use the south sidewalk (closest to the lake). From the US access the bridge via the parking lot near Busti Avenue. From Canada access the sidewalk from Mather Arch Park.
Tolls are paid crossing into Canada only and are $3.75 (USD) for non commercial vehicles. For commercial vehicles the toll is based on number of axels and starts at $6 for vehicles with 2 Axels up to $53 for vehicles with 7+ axels. Buses are charged $13 (USD) Pedestrians and cyclists can cross free of charge. For special loads that require lane closures or traffic management an additional fee of $100 - $265 may apply and the bridge authority must be notified in advance. call 716-884-6744 (US) or 905-871-1608 (Canada). The Peace Bridge is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year though specific or all lanes can be subject to maintenance or weather related closures.
Peace Bridge Duty Free Info: Peace Bridge Duty Free https://www.dutyfree.ca is located in the Fort Erie side of the bridge and is open 24/7/365. Duty Free Americas https://www.dutyfreeamericas.com/locations/location/buffalo/ is located on the Buffalo side of the bridge and is open 24/7/365. Both stores offer online shopping and in store pick up.
Peace Bridge ID requirements - For most US & Canadian travelers one or more of the following will suffice:
  • Enhanced Drivers License
  • Enhanced Non Driver ID
  • Passport
  • Permanent Residents Card
  • US Passport Card
  • FAST Card
  • NEXUS Card
For those under 15 a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship is required.
