Rio Grande / Camargo Bridge Crossing Wait Times & FAQ’s

The border crossing in Rio Grande City is over the Rio Grande City-Camargo International Bridge. The bridge is also known as the Starr-Carmargo Bridge. The bridge came into operation in 1966. At this time, the bridge replaced the ferry service that used to run across the river. The bridge only has two lanes, so it can become quite congested in busy hours.

To cross over a land border between Mexico and the United States you need to show appropriate identification. While it is not as easy to cross the border as it was in the past, there are still more acceptable IDs then there are if you are flying across the border. The most obvious forms of acceptable ID are a passport, a PASS card (which some frequent travelers may have), and an Enhanced Driver’s License. Other options when crossing the land border are any trusted traveler cards - NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST. Enhanced tribal cards, Native American tribal photo cards, and Form I-872 American Indian Cards are all accepted as ID to cross the border. Military personal can cross with their military ID and travel orders.
